Kangna Ranaut (born 20 March 1987, age 24, Bhambla, Himachal Pradesh) is an Indian actress who acts in Bollywood films. She made her Bollywood debut in 2006 in Gangster. She won both a Filmfare and a National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as a troubled model in Fashion (2008).

Ranaut was born to Asha, a school teacher, and Amardeep, a businessman, in a Himachali family. She has an elder sister, Rangoli and a younger brother, Akshit. She was born in a small town called Bhambla in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. Her family lives in Mandi.
She did her schooling in [Dehradun], from DAV model school Sector 15. She took admission in Government College for Girls Sector 11, in Bachelors of Arts program. After a few months of college, she moved to Delhi to become a model and joined the Elite Modelling Agency in 2003.
She is also a trained Kathak dancer, and is learning to sing from Amitabh Chakraborty.She decided to re-locate to Bombay, and lived in a flat in Yari Road, Versova. Her attempts at acting in Bollywood movies were unsuccessful. Then during September 2005, she was spotted drinking coffee in a café by Film-maker Anurag Basu, who approached her, and eventually signed her up for a lead role in 'Gangster' which was released during the year 2006. Since then Kangana has appeared in a total of five movies, including 'Dhaam Dhoom' in Tamil.After her success in movies, she has now relocated to a three bedroom house in Turner Road, Bandra (West), Mumbai.
Later, Kangana starred in yet another Anurag Basu project, the hit film Life In A... Metro, as a confused girl who is looking for a real love. Her performance in the film earned her rave reviews. She also starred in Shakalaka Boom Boom (2007) as an aspiring singer. Her latest film Fashion has been released and is already a hit. Kangana has received extremely positive reviews for her portrayal of a supermodel who loses everything on drug abuse.
